A Step of Faith

Question: What does it take for a person to go to heaven?  Just be a “good” person?  Try to follow the 10 Commandments?

Answer:  F-A-I-T-H in Jesus Christ

F – Forgiveness
We cannot have true forgiveness and eternal life without God’s forgiveness:
“In Him [Jesus] we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace.” Ephesians 1:7

A – Available
Forgiveness is available to ALL:
Jesus said, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”  John 3:16

I – Impossible
It is impossible for God to allow sin into heaven.

God is Just and Holy:
“As it is written, ‘Be holy, for I am holy.'”
1 Peter 1:16

But Man is sinful:
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”        Romans 3:23

NEXT Question: Since this is impossible, how can a sinful person enter heaven, where God allows no sin?

 T – Turn
Another Question: If you were driving down the road and someone asked you to turn, what would they be asking you to do?
(Change directions, right?)

“Repent” means “to turn”:

  • Turn from sin and self –
Jesus said, “Unless you repent you will all likewise perish.” Luke 13:3
  • Turn to Jesus – “Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures.”
1 Corinthians 15:3-4 “If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9

H – Heaven
Heaven is eternal life:

  • In the “Here and Now” …
Jesus said, “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” John 10:10
  • And in the “Hereafter” …
Jesus said, “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” John 14:3

You can begin this wonderful journey of faith and call upon Christ now.  Ask Jesus to forgive your sins and invite Him into your life.  We are implored to confess our sins.  I John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive our sin and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”  Confess to the Lord specific sinful acts you’ve committed.  Ask for His forgiveness.

Use this prayer, or pray in your own words:

“Dear Jesus, I believe that You died on the cross for my sins and that You arose from the grave.  I turn away from my sins, and now ask You to forgive me of my sins and to save my soul.  Amen.”
